The islands were part of the UK's Jamaican colony until 1962, when they assumed the status of a separate crown colony upon Jamaica's independence. The governor of The Bahamas oversaw affairs from 1965 to 1973. With Bahamian independence, the islands received a separate governor in 1973. Although independence was agreed upon for 1982, the policy was reversed and the islands remain a British overseas territory.

Kuan Yin, the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy, is a fixture of the Chinese Buddhist tradition. There are two stories to tell about her: 1. The story suggest that the most commonly recognized Buddha, Sidhartha Gauthama, transformed himself into the female form of Kuan Yin. 2. According to the Chinese legend, she forgo her privilege to enter eternal bliss after having attained Nirvana and chose instead to stay back and help lost souls in the world of suffering. Her sacrifice was worshipped to this very day... The bronze statue is 30,2 meter tall. The statue was ready in 1999, when I visited the complex for the first time. It's open to the public since 2002. The statue stands all day long in the burning sun, and if it ours, the rain will drop heavily on her. So they made a proposition to build a roof above her head. To finance this roof you can donate a roof tile.

In the the world’s largest cuckoo clock , found in Triberg, Germany, the cuckoo bird alone is 14 feet long and weighs 330 pounds. The whole thing is based on a much smaller cuckoo clock that is about 100 years old—the Triberg clock is simply scaled up. By sixty times. Following the ancient traditions of the cuckoo clocks, they are still made in Triberg.

Shangri-La is the "Eden in dream". Since it first appeared in British novelist James Hilton's Lost Horizon in the 1939, it has been associated with the mystique of a place which could not possibly exist here on Earth. In Tibetan,Shangri-La means the "sun and moon in heart", an ideal home only found in heaven.
